The credit card ads like to give the impression that you need a Visa or American Express to take a vacation to a tropical destination. At the big beach resorts you can use that card. But once you get off the beaten path you better have cash. Of course in Thailand there's an ATM just about everywhere. Just be sure your bank back home doesn't rip you on fees.
