Generally it means a model is known internationally and is highly paid. The funny thing is that many of the models called supermodels in the west are unknown by most of the world's population, which is in Asia. While some of the Asian models are known by far more people than the western models, but they are called unkowns in the west. So I guess we just leave the word "supermodel" to the English speaking countries to define, although Thais like to use words like that a lot, like the contest Pancake won.
