Another view of the French maid costume where we can see the stockings and that garter thingy that holds them up. I don't know what it is called but it is classic boudoir wear. I like that word, boudoir. It means about a woman's private sitting room or bedroom. Did you know that it is a French word that comes from the word that means to pout? That's pretty funny. So a boudoir is a room for a lady to sit and pout I guess.
According to Wikipedia (one of my favorite info sources):"Historically, the boudoir formed part of the private suite of rooms of a lady, for bathing and dressing, adjacent to her bedchamber, being the female equivalent of the male cabinet. In later periods, the boudoir was used as a private drawing room, and was used for other activities, such as embroidery or entertaining intimate acquaintances." I think I need to add one of these to my house. You know, I have all that drawing going on. And then there is the emobroidery. And of course lots of intimate entertaining.
